Currently in the Denver community there is a lot of buzz regarding the development of Union Station. The redevelopment of Union Station came to be due to the increasingly high demand for increased transportation options for residents of Denver and the Colorado community. According to the Denver Business Journal, Colorado’s population is expected to grow to 7 million people by 2030. Thus, there is a need that needs to be met.
As far as transportation goes, one of the highlights and most talked about elements of the redevelopment of Union Station is the opening of the Lightrail stop that will take you directly from Downtown Denver to DIA. The inclusion of a TSA security checkpoint that will enable faster security through DIA for Lightrail commuters is going to improve travel time and traffic flow for the entire city.
With this multi million dollar urban redevelopment, there are a plethora of additional benefits to the community. There will be a hotel inside the historic Union Station called the Crawford Hotel. This is going to be a very unique project in that there will 112 rooms, with no two being the same. Currently down in the Lodo and Denver area multiple new apartments are being built and some are even starting their leasing. Economic growth will also come from from the commercial office and retail spaces. In fact, a few restaurants have already opened for business including The Thirsty Lion and the always popular Snooze! All in all this urban redevelopment project is going to revitalize the historic Union Station and reenergize the downtown Denver community as well as Colorado as a whole. From the connection to Denver history to the economic and job growth that will be seen in Denver in the upcoming years, this is a fantastic time to be able to call Denver and Colorado home.
