If you're in Denver for the Thanksgiving Holiday, there are a lot of activities going on (other than eating) around the city to get you into the holiday spirit around the city! Weather you are looking to burn some pre-Thanksgiving calories, want to get a head start on your shopping, or simply want to enjoy some more family time, there are activities for everyone!
1. Get Running! the 43rd Annual Mile High United Way Turkey Trot takes place on Thanksgiving day at 10am. It usually draws more than 20,000 people to Wash Park for an awesome 4-mile course around and through the park. I did this race last year and, despite the freezing temperatures and snow, it is one of my favorite races to date! The houses that surround the park host "cheer parties" where everyone is out on the front lawn and porch cheering you on with music and noisemakers. I also like that it doesn't start at the typical 7am time that most races do. This year the temperatures should be in the mid to upper 50s, the PERFECT RUNNING WEATHER! Dogs and strollers are also allowed in this run, as well as a 1/4 mile kids fun run. Stick around after for vendors and free beer, before returning home for a well-deserved Thanksgiving meal. Register here.
2. HO! HO! HO!. Get in the Christmas spirit during Denver's Christkindl Market at Skyline Park. Going on from November 13-December 23, shop handmade gifts from Germany, Ukraine, Ireland, as well as other countries. This is a free event for the entire family. Do you get hungry or thirsty when you shop? Have no fear, hot spiced wine (Gluhwein) and traditional German foods will be there for you to enjoy! Listen to traditional German carols and music while you get all of your Holiday shopping done.
3. Light it up! By far the highlight of Thanksgiving weekend for many Denver residents is the lighting of the capitol. At 6pm on November 25, thousands of people will gather in Civic Center Park to watch the city be illuminated from Denver Union Station, to the City and County Building. The lights stay on through the end of December, but nothing beats the excitement of seeing them first hand with hot chocolate in hand and family by your side. I can't think of a better ending to Thanksgiving, and start to the Holiday season, can you?

"We worked with Karen Venier for a relatively short time for a good reason: our home sold at full price within hours of hitting the market! While it’s true that the Denver housing market is “hot,” credit for the speed and ease of our transaction belongs to Karen. She was great to work with, giving us perfect advice about readying our home for sale and then expertly guiding us from offer to close. Along the way, we came to appreciate Karen for her skillful blend of professionalism and personal touches – like dropping off our favorite beverages during a particularly stressful time in our move or shoveling our driveway in subzero temps after we’d left the state (way beyond the call of duty!). Now that we’ve relocated to Wisconsin, we keep saying that we wish Karen could be our buyer’s agent here. Since that’s not possible, we’ll shout her name loudly to whoever might be looking for a home in the Denver area.
Thanks for the great work, Karen!
